Attractie- en Vakantiepark Slagharen is embracing Halloween this year. The wildly popular horror festival will make its first appearance at the amusement park in 2023, with an exciting daytime program for families with children and an extra scary evening program for those over 14 years old. For the first time in the 60 years history of the park visitors can look forward to spooky areas and exciting experiences in the park.
To introduce the event, Slagharen did not go overnight. "Everything we do has to match our western theme," explains general manager Dave Storm. "That's why behind the scenes we had been working on a Halloween event for a long time. Now we have found a way to celebrate Halloween our way: in the atmosphere of the Wild West."
Halloween at Slagharen takes place from October 7 to 29. With the really scary evening openings on October 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 25, 27 and 28. During these evenings Slagharen seeks the dark edges of the Wild West. Therefore, an advisory age of 14+ is also given.
"In America, Halloween is a hugely popular tradition. Because of this, Halloween and Slagharen are a perfect fit," Storm explains. "In our park you will encounter influences from the United States and iconic Wild West aspects people know from western movies. Think brutal bandits, vast prairies and a classic Main Street. We can use that character to add something unique to Halloween, compared to other theme parks."
Slagharen is not alone in organizing the Halloween activities. The resort gets help from the renowned Leisure Expert Group, known as the producer of high-quality haunted houses in amusement parks around the world. Moreover, several sister parks also have a lot of experience with Halloween, including Bobbejaanland in Belgium and Movie Park Germany in Germany. Slagharen is looking forward to learn from their experiences as well.
